The Health Hackathon on Risk Communication Nigeria Edition: Day 3
As Day 3 of the hackathon competition draws to a close, many teams are planning on staying up and working through the night on their varied and technology-driven ideas. Wednesday saw teams start to get really serious about the planning of their ideas and coders are deploying their incredible tech skills to begin to draw up prototypes for apps, websites and software.
At lunchtime teams were still all at very different levels with some almost completing prototypes and others still unsure of their basic ideas. Towards the end of the day the slower teams had caught up by a long way. The atmosphere at Civic Innovation Lab is one of relaxed focus, with participants getting on with work at an incredible pace.
The range of programming languages participants have decided to use is vast, every team is taking a totally different approach. Several of the teams have got extremely ambitious ideas encompassing huge ranges of data, enormous areas of land and the populations of the entire country in many cases. Although these ideas may sound impressive, participants will have to back up their grandiose ideas with solid proposals, working technology plans and the myriad of cultural and health challenges that Nigeria poses.
Tomorrow will be the day of judgement and we will see whether the 10 teams have as much substance as they say. Can they put their tech skills where their mouths are to save Nigeria in the event of a large scale health disaster? We will find out….
Keep paying attention to our Facebook and Instagram page tomorrow. We are very sorry to say we’ve had some technical issues with Twitter so that page will be missing in action for tomorrow’s big event.
To all the teams…. GOOD LUCK!
